Here’s a closer look at how Stefania’s dual focus on continuous improvement and customs strengthens operational reliability and supports ANDY’s commitment to being Trusted to Deliver Excellence.
Can you tell us about your roles as Manager, Customs and Continuous Improvement at ANDY and what your key responsibilities involve?
In my dual role as Manager, Customs and Continuous Improvement, I focus on both operational performance and regulatory compliance across the organization.
On the continuous improvement side, I work closely with the operations team to optimize efficiency by reducing truck idling, improving on-time delivery, and increasing driver productivity. I monitor and analyze key KPIs and generate reports to support data-driven decision-making. I also identify gaps in performance, recommend improvements, such as pricing adjustments, and lead or support strategic initiatives aimed at enhancing overall operational efficiency.
In my compliance and customs role, I oversee the validation of key processes and ensure all required documentation is complete and accurate for cross-border shipments.
How do you balance your responsibilities across continuous improvement and customs while maintaining efficiency and accuracy in both areas?
I balance both roles by using structured processes, prioritization, and strong communication.
There is also a strong overlap between both roles. Continuous improvement principles help streamline customs processes. For example, by implementing standardized documents and clear review steps for customs documentation, and improving reporting accuracy, I can reduce errors and delays at the border.
From a continuous improvement perspective, how do you identify opportunities to enhance operational performance?
I identify opportunities by analyzing operational data and monitoring KPIs on a daily basis, I also track report accuracy and completeness to ensure the data we rely on is reliable.
Beyond data, I assess workflows and identify inefficiencies such as idle time, delays, or gaps in communication. I also gather feedback from dispatchers and drivers to better understand operational challenges on the ground.
Once opportunities are identified, I recommend and implement solutions, such as process improvements, pricing adjustments, or system enhancement, and follow up through monthly performance meetings to track progress and ensure sustained improvement.

From a customs standpoint, how do you ensure compliance and accuracy in cross-border operations?
I ensure compliance by actively validating all required documentation before shipments reach the border. This includes bills of lading, invoices, certificates of origin, and ensuring all shipment detail, such as origin, destination, truck, and trailer, are accurate in the manifest.
I also supervise compliance follow-ups by identifying discrepancies in documentation, PODs, fuel logs, or logbooks, and taking immediate action to resolve them.
In addition, I work closely with brokers, dispatchers, and internal teams to ensure alignment and fast issue resolution. I also collaborate with IT to develop automated checks that improve compliance validation and reduce manual errors. This proactive and structured approach helps prevent delays and ensures smooth cross-border operations.
What are the biggest challenges you face in customs today, and how do you work to address them?
The biggest challenges include keeping up with constantly evolving customs regulations and managing documentation accuracy under tight timelines. Issues such as incomplete paperwork from customers or working with unfamiliar brokers can create delays and increase risk at the border.
To address these challenges, I focus on proactive communication with brokers and stakeholders to clarify requirements ahead of time and avoid surprises. I also continuously educate myself on regulatory changes to ensure compliance and keep the team informed.
Additionally, I work on improving internal processes by standardizing documentation requirements and implementing validation checks to reduce errors. This helps create a more reliable and efficient customs workflow.
