Daily, you probably interact with businesses, goods, and services that can only be available thanks to professional truck drivers across Canada and the US. In fact, in 2017, 90% of all freight shipments in Canada were hauled by truck. Trucks are used to deliver essential, everyday goods that the population depends on, including fuel, equipment, food, medical supplies, waste management, and much more. It’s undeniable that without this industry, the comforts and necessities we all rely on and take for granted would quickly disappear.
Many people may not think twice about a truck passing them on the highway, but that truck could be delivering essential medical supplies to save someone’s life. Businesses of all sizes depend on the trucking industry to maintain fast delivery times and deliver products safely all-over North America. The trucking industry handles much more cargo than trains, ships or planes -- and without trucks, goods could never travel from rail yards, ports and airports to their final destinations. If the trucking industry stopped rolling, it’s safe to say that the world would come to a sudden stop.
Behind this massive industry lies the ”trucker”, or what we refer to here, at Andy as the “Professional truck driver”’. Canada’s infrastructure is held up by professional truck drivers. Businesses and industries need them to remain robust and active and, on the road, to maintain the basic needs of citizens. These drivers leave their families to haul products to hospitals, grocery stores, pharmacies, restaurants, and construction sites twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. Now, more than ever, professional truck drivers are getting the recognition and praise they have always deserved.
At Andy transport, we took notice to this and have been working on concrete actions aimed at giving our drivers the recognition they deserve. Some of these actions may include:
A competitive salary
Flexible schedules
Training and advancement opportunities
A promotion of work/life/study balance
Respect
And more!
At Andy, we believe that drivers and their work are important, so we are dedicated to treating them accordingly.
As our President & CEO always reminds us, “We don't hire people to drive trucks; we buy trucks to hire and grow our people.”
